Harvesting Dreams: Hundertwasser for Kids

by Barbara Stieff

Prestel USA, 2008

Bonjour, mes amis—'ello, my friends! I love to cook with fresh fruits and veggies from zee garden—I am an expert when eet comes to ‘arvesting food. But did you know you can also ‘arvest dreams? I ‘ad never ‘eard of such nonsense! Zat is, until Sam gave me zis incredible book about artist and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

Hundertwasser is simply fantastique! Throughout ‘is life, Hundertwasser loved nature and was tres curieux, very curious, about why things grow and why things die. Zat is why many of ‘is paintings and drawings were about nature, and zee buildings he designed were in ‘armony with zee natural environment. One of my favorite pictures in zee book is zee “Spiral House” design, which ‘as grass and moss and trees growing on top of zee building! Zis reminded me of zee wonderful article on earth-sheltered buildings ("A Garden for a Roof") in zee May/June Spider!

Zis book also contains fun activities zat will get you thinking like Hundertwasser. You are asked to do zee coolest things, like look around for a perfectly straight line, or draw a postcard from your favorite trip. Sounds like fun, non? Excusez-moi, but I must be off—I want to draw a postcard from my trip to see zee biggest kitchen in all of zee world!
