I must confess, I was reluctant to read ziss book at first. Pourquoi? Because it eez about ugly vegetables! There eez no such thing! I, Miro, believe that all vegetables are beautiful. Imagine my surprise when I started reading, and voila—zees vegetables really are ugly! But zay are also delicious! How can ziss be?

The heroine of ziss book wants to grow a beautiful flower garden like zee rest of her neighbors. But her mother insists on growing a huge vegetable plot full of spiky leaves and strangely shaped gourds. One day, when the heroine eez feeling especially sad that their garden eez so different, her mother picks a wheelbarrow full of her Chinese vegetables and makes un potage délicieux— a delicious soup! C’est magnifique—It’s superb!

I, Miro, was shocked when I learned that there are vegetables called xiao hu gua and xian cai. I had never heard zees exotic names before! I will definitely have to cook up some of ziss delicious Ugly Vegetable soup for everybuggy.
