What's Everybuggy Reading: Miro
Thelonius Monster's Sky-High Fly Pie

by Judy Sierra
Knopf, 2006
Quelle horreur!
Zat sneaky Spider gave me zis book as an early Halloween present. He told me it was a scrumptious cookbook, full of mouth-watering recipes from zee South of France. Mais non! Zis is a book about zee most disgusting recipe ever created. After reading zis poem, Miro may never find zee will to cook again!
Thelonius Monster gets a craving for a snack—no, not a snack of brie and pears, not a warm apple tart—but something far more ‘orrible. FLIES!!! He decides to make a giant pie filled with zeez nasty, buzzing creatures, for all his monster friends. I was ‘orrified—but I could not stop reading! After Thelonius catches thousands of flies and turns zem into a truly revolting creation, he invites his monster friends for dinner. Zey are all very impressed by zee pie! (I cannot see why.) It buzzes, it sings, it . . . flies away?
I, Miro, was very ‘appy when zee pie flew away. But zen something unexpected happens, and all zee monsters cry to Thelonius, “You’re a fabulous cook!” Fabulous? Miro is zee fabulous cook! Must I turn to fly recipes now, to achieve zis high honor?
Still ‘orrified,
