What's Everybuggy Reading: Ophelia

Art School

by Mick Manning and Brita Granstrom
Frances Lincoln Children's Books, 1996

Do you remember reading about Aramay from “School of Freedom” in this month’s Spider? Since it was illegal for her to go to school, Aramay had to take charge of her own education. You probably go to public school, private school—or maybe you’re even home schooled—but having the skills to educate yourself can be very useful. Plus, it’s fun!

Art School will turn you into a talented artist, no teachers required! You’ll learn to draw a self-portrait, experiment with color, and paint a picture of your most vivid dream. I loved learning about sculpture, and Sam went crazy over the section on making maps.

At the end of the book, you’ll learn how to put on your very own art show! Invite your friends and family to look at your beautiful creations. Everybuggy will be super-impressed! You can even sell your art, if you want. (Spider plans to sell his self-portrait for one million dollars.)
