What's Everybuggy Reading: Sam

Adventures in Cartooning

First Second 2009

Although I'm more of a science guy, I had a blast learning the “three E’s” of drawing funny in this month’s Spider! I decided to practice by drawing a goofy portrait of my favorite cowboy, Spidie da Dude. (Don't forget to enter YOUR funny cowboy drawing in this month's Spider's Corner contest!) It was only my first try, but Miro liked it so much he hung it on the refrigerator!

In light of my recent success as an artist, I’ve decided to experiment with different techniques. I am now in my “Cartoon Period,” and this book has been great for learning all I need to know about drawing cartoons. Did you know that you can make your drawings tell a story? The book says you start by making panels (like in a comic book) to show action, and then you fill the panels with dramatic scenes and wacky adventures! By the end of the book, you'll know how to draw a cool cartoon and tell a silly story.

Now, if you’ll please excuse me, I must get back to my art. Spider thinks my “Spidie da Dude” painting will be very valuable one day!
