What's Everybuggy Reading: Sonya

Around the World on Eighty Legs

As an acrobatic damselfly, you can count on me for excitement. So grab your binoculars and camera—I've got the ultimate animal adventure for you! This amazing book is jam-packed with facts and catchy poems about creatures from all seven continents. And I've gotta say, there are some truly goofy lookin’ animals in this book, like the tapir and the skua. (Next to them, Spider almost looks normal. Almost.

The illustrations are clever and hilarious. In one picture, a male emu sits on a cluster of eggs with a book titled “Mr. Mom.” (Male emus are responsible for sitting on their eggs until they hatch.) In another, a Poison Dart Frog wears a crown with his lips puckered for a kiss. Spoiler alert: If you kiss this frog, he will not turn into a prince! He's filled with powerful poison that will make you drop dead on the spot—not my kind of fairy tale!

This book has really given me the travel bug—I want to fly all over the world to see these animals in person! Wait . . . I am a travel bug. Can I be a travel bug and have the travel bug at the same time? Why, of course! I'm Sonya the Daring Damselfly!
