Night in the Country

Night in the Country
By Cynthia Rylant
Bradbury Press, 1986
Even though I’m a fast-flying, acrobatic-loving, loopy, swoopy, wise, and mature bug, I still love bedtime stories. This is one of the most relaxing books I’ve read in a long time (and you know I’m always on the move!) It’s perfect for warm spring nights, when the breeze is fluttering through your curtains, and you can hear birds chirping softly as they settle down to sleep.
Do you remember how much Mattie and her grandmother loved the country in “Gatherin’ Up the Mountain?” This book will help you imagine just what it’s like to live there. The simple text and soothing pictures describe the sound of hooting owls and quiet barnyard animals. You’ll read about the rabbits that nibble on apples in the middle of the night, and the soft sounds that a country house makes. By the end of the book, you’ll be ready to curl up and dream of the country, just like I’m about to do. Sweet dreams!
