My name is Spider. It’s pretty clear what I am: THE Number One Spider in All the Land.
So how’s this for confusing? The main character in the book Wolf Wanted is named Manny Wolf—and he’s not a wolf! He’s just a man who needs a job. When he sees an ad in the newspaper marked “Wolf Wanted,” of course he responds! Turns out they wanted a real wolf, but he gets the job of responding to everyone who applied for the wolf position (how wacky!) He hears from a wolf who can huff and puff better than any other wolf, one who has years of experience luring girls off the trail while they are on their way to their grandmothers’ houses, and even from the wolf who raised Mowgli in The Jungle Book! But Manny Wolf isn’t looking for any of these great and terrible canines. Wait till the end of the book to see what he really wants.
Wait a second—Sam just told me that there’s a type of spider called a wolf spider. Now I’m really freaked out! AM I A WOLF, TOO?!?!
