What's Everybuggy Reading: Thistle
Anne of Green Gables
by Lucy Maude Montgomery
originally published in 1908
Dandelion isn’t the only girl who hates her (teddy bear-shaped) freckle. Anne Shirley will do anything to get rid of the freckles on her nose—she even tries rubbing them with lemon juice. Ouch! (Spider says Andrew in Freckle Juice uses lemon juice to create freckles—h'm . . .)
Anne of Green Gables is one of my favorite books in the world. Ophelia gave me her copy. She said she read it when she was a little buggy. It’s starting to fall apart at the seams, because we’ve both read it so many times!
Anne Shirley is an orphan with a huge imagination that’s always getting her into trouble. She dyes her hair green, gets stranded on a sinking boat in the middle of a lake, and tells so many ghost stories that she starts to believe them. She is very proud of her nose, but absolutely hates her freckles.
This book may be long, but don’t worry—by the time you’re done reading it, it will be spring!
