Mumjum

Mumjum is one of our favorite rainy day games. You can play with two, three, or any number of friends.

What You'll Need:

25 small household objects, such as a button, penny, key, or pen
large tray
towel big enough to cover the tray
pencils and paper (or scorecards)
watch or clock with a second hand

What to Do:

  1. Have one player gather the objects--there should be no peeking by the other players. All the items must be different and they must all fit on the tray.
  2. Cover the tray with the towel and set it on the table where the other players can see it.
  3. The Object Collector will be the timekeeper, too. When the Object Collector says "Go!" and uncovers the tray, the other players have 30 seconds to study the objects. When time is up, the Object Collector covers the tray again.
  4. While the Object Collector clocks 1 minute, the other players write down as many of the objects as they can remember. Players receive one point for each object they write down.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 once more to see how many additional objects players can write down.
  6. The player with the most points wins and is the Object Collector for the next round.

Mumjum Challenge:

Instead of gathering 25 completely different objects, the Object Collector can gather similar objects that are just slightly different from each other--buttons of different colors and shapes, a variety of stamps, or coins from different years. The other players then have to remember more details about the objects and write down descriptions that clearly identify each one, such as "green button, round blue button, 2001 penny." Good luck!
